Basics of plastic injection molding
How Does It Work?
Marlee – Texen plastic injection molding is injecting molten plastic into a mold tool and then ejecting out the final solid product. The process is repeated in hundreds or thousands of cycles to produce the exact copies. Since the plastic mold design and tools remain the same for each unit, it becomes cost-effective to manufacture large-scale plastics. It is one of the most widely used techniques to produce industrial plastics worldwide. This process is intricate and needs adamant skills to create the best quality plastics.
Injection molding process:
- Clamping: Before the plastic is injected into the mold, the machine clamps down the two halves to prevent it from opening during the injection step.
- Injection: The resin or raw plastic is filled into the injection mold machine in the form of pellets. The temperature and compression heat the pellets by the screw and convey them through heated zones of the machine barrel. Once the set amount of melted plastic reaches the front of the screw, the machine injects it into the mold under high pressure, pushing it into each crevice of the mold cavity.
- Cooling: The mold surface starts to cool down, which further solidifies the shape of melted plastic.
- Ejection: Once the plastic is cooled down completely, the mold is unclamped, and the finished plastic is pushed out.
